DIGITIZING A GLOBAL FOOD SUPPLIER

Olam International and Redstage collaborated to modernize the global agriculture supplier’s internal and external eCommerce portals, including 3 migrations and many advanced integrations.

BACKGROUND

Olam International, one of the leading food and agri-business companies in the world, operates from seed to shelf in 70 countries around the globe and supplying food and industrial raw materials to over 23,000 small businesses worldwide. They are one of the leading distributors of coffee beans, spices, and nuts around the world. Olam chose Redstage to modernize their internal and external eCommerce portals, requiring multiple site builds, data migrations, and several advanced integrations.

BRIEF

OlamSpecialtyCoffee.com, Olamnuts.com, and OlamSpices.com needed to be migrated from a single Magento instance to 3 individual sites in order to increase operational efficiencies.

GOALS

Each of the 3 new sites required different modules and extensions to serve industry-specific needs, notably OlamSpecialtyCoffee.com, which required integration with a Commodity Trade and Risk Management Platform.

THE CHALLENGE

The key integration was the CTRM, Olam’s custom ERP solution (and the single source of truth for all inventory data) which had to be connected to each of the 3 instances, in addition to individual modules and extensions. These included extensions for shipping, social media, search and more. At the same time, performance and security remained key pillars of the project.

OUR STORY

Digitizing A Global Supplier

OlamSpecialtyCoffee.com, OlamEdibleNuts.com, and OlamSpices.com all had different requirements in their backend, serving different industries and having different modules and extensions needed, and even needing to be regulated and maintained differently.

As a leading supplier of coffee, nuts, and spices; the Olam team needed separate portals for each of its three websites and to provide massive amounts of buyers around the world the same high standard of customer service.

This was a job that needed experienced, precise hands for massive data migration, extension building and integrating, and customer experience perfecting.

AN INDUSTRY FIRST

Olamnuts.com is the first supplier marketplace of its kind to launch in their vertical. As a result, the new site gives significant strategic advantage to Olam now and for the long-term. This is testament to Olam’s dedication and drive to be an industry pioneer.

The Solution

After successfully migrating the massive amounts of data for each site; OlamSpecialtyCoffee.com, OlamEdibleNuts.com, and OlamSpices.com, we got to work on integrating the necessary modules for each one individually. Beginning with the source of truth for all their data, custom ERP solution CTRM, each Magento instance could access the global inventory of spices, nuts and coffee independently of each other. Migration of this data successfully was paramount to the success of this project.

Next, each site had its own list of necessary extensions and integrations. For Olam Specialty Coffee that included Hubspot, MagePlaza, Authorize.net, ShipperHQ and more. For Olam Spices and EdibleNuts, Amasty extensions were needed, as well as customer approval from MagePlaza, among others. With all their custom solutions in place, and their 3 Magento instances separated, all three sites are performing better than they ever have pre-migration.

While data migration and solutions integrations for a global scale company are never a walk in the park, Redstage and Olam worked together to ensure the success of this project.
